Race Recap By Scott Orlando:
I had a great time bright and early this morning at the Akron Marathon Goodyear Half Marathon And 10K. I ran the half marathon. My strategy for this race was to start a little faster on the first mile around the Goodyear test track and then settle into a nice easy comfortable pace around 8:15 -8:30 pace using the race more as a marathon training run. Even though the course was hilly, I felt strong and ran easy and loose. Knowing that the last two miles were down hill I focused on getting through mile 10. After that I really let loose and pushed the pace. I ran mile 12 in 7:31 and mile 13 in 7:25 pushing hard through the finish. I crossed the finish line in 1:46:40 averaging an 8:09 pace. It wasn’t my fastest half marathon but I’m really pleased about how I felt and how I finished.
It was great to see so many Team-ER members and running friends on the course today. Thank you to the great people at the Akron Marathon and to all of the volunteers who got up early this morning and helped put on a great race.
Race Recap By Renee Buckus:
Last week during a conference for work, a speaker said that frustration is the difference between reality and expectation and that resonated with me. So going into the Goodyear half I set my expectation to this: don’t look at your watch and run by feel. A little deeper down I wanted to run this in under 2:15 but I was OK if it didn’t happen. Anyway, I didn’t look at my watch, I ran by feel and enjoyed myself and managed to run it in less than 2:15! Expectations: low, frustration: non-existent. It also helped that my little mini was waiting at the finish line.
Now let’s see what we can do at the Akron half!
Race Recap By Roy Miller:
Wasn’t sure how this race would go. I was somewhere in between a training run and an all out see what I could do race. The first time I would be running in a new age group (50-54).
I started out without looking at my watch. Whatever I clipped off the first mile I was going to try to keep it going. 7:19 felt great so I figured it was all out race time. gave back a little time on mile 3 but super happy that my last mile was 6:55. Finished with an overall time of 44:43 which was good enough for 3rd place in my AG! Will definitely run the series again next year
Race Recap By George McFall:
The Goodyear 10k …. Race #2 of the Akron Marathon race series. Getting to start the race on the Goodyear test track is epic! And it’s a fast downhill to the finish line in front of the Goodyear World Headquarters. Great volunteers, lots of spectators and the after race party is so much fun. Food, drinks, and live music.
I gave it everything I had.. Mile 5 was not good to me. Worked hard to get some time back on the last 1.2 miles of the race.
Race Recap By Christine Churpek:
The Akron Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k is one of my favorite races every year! The early start, the hot weather, the downhill finish and staying to celebrate the last finisher never gets old! Can’t wait to do it all over again next year!
Race Recap By Steve Zenar:
I had a wonderful run this morning at the Goodyear 10K. I didn’t come with any goals or ambitions this round other than to spend some time running alongside Mike Williams. We had a great time together through the first 5 miles and then I decided to push the final 1.2… felt great and was able to get into the 7min/mi pace. Couldn’t have asked for better weather and as always the venue was top notch. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
Race Recap By Mike Williams:
Another Goodyear 10k in the books. Very tough start, but ended up better than expected. Thanks to Steve Zenar for pulling me along with him and not letting me walk.
Race Recap By Brittany Kiehl:
It was fun starting on Goodyear’s Proving Grounds. I missed the blimp flying overhead this year. The 10K course showcases many iconic landmarks of Goodyear. I loved how the shirts and medals both featured the blimp. Great post race festivities!
