Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

This is my 2nd year running Dirty Snowflake and it continues to live up to its name!
Seasoned RDs have this race down – organized, thorough communication, and easy directions.
Ample free parking close to the start / finish
Indoor staging, restrooms, and main aid station
2 mile loop on well marked course consisting of road, gravel, and trail. Minimal elevation w/ a few technical areas makes this course very run-able.
2 race options include 3×2 – run as many loops as you want but only the fastest 3 count or
4 hour endurance- run as many loops as you can in the 4 hour time limit
Choice of swag including an option to upgrade to a soft hoodie with the brand new snowflake logo
Full aid station at the start / finish with all the sweet and salty snacks as well as mashed potatoes and gravy
Bonus chili cook off between the vendors give you vegan / vegetarian / meat lovers options!
All runners receive a finishers medal with the new logo
Awards for top 3 overall and age group winners
I decided to run the 4 hour endurance this year with 2 goals…
No falling
Finish a strong half marathon
The loops were a little over 2 miles and I finished my race with a total of 16.37 miles earning 2nd in my age group!
I would definitely recommend!

Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

Long weekend in St. Louis? Let’s run!
Popular race series to support the local MS/HS track kids through St. Louis’s sprawling Forest Park!
Affordable $20 registration for any distance with add on options – love my soft cotton LS tee!
Starting line was a short walk from packet pick up – no clear instructions just follow the crowd.
Chip start / finish timing
Well marked course on paved roads with some elevation
Roads were open to traffic with volunteers spaced out to help with directions/ safety but there were a couple areas where runners had to stay alert and yield to cars.
Ample hydration stations on course and a full aid station with snacks at the end.
Awards for overall and 5 year age group winners 3 deep.
This was a fair sized crowd and I was pleasantly surprised to place 1st in my age group! Blue ribbon seemed appropriate for this MS/HS event.

Race Review By Gretchen Snyder:

I had the privilege of both volunteering at and racing Great New Year’s Eve 5k in Stow. Bib pick up went smoothly with short lines thanks to all of volunteers. The RaceDay CheckIn app is simple to utilize. Runners were gifted a fleece GNYER blanket in a color of their choice. The race started behind the high school, up up and up Newcomer Road and then through neighborhoods, then back. The race truly was uphill both ways, with an overall elevation gain of 171 feet (not bad for a 5k!). At the turnaround, the snow was falling and sticking to the ground (and my face), which made for a slick and slower return. Even with a slower than usual pace, I came in second in my age group and was awarded with a medal (and a sweatshirt as part of a random raffle).
