Race Review By Gretchen Snyder:
I had the privilege of both volunteering at and racing Great New Year’s Eve 5k in Stow. Bib pick up went smoothly with short lines thanks to all of volunteers. The RaceDay CheckIn app is simple to utilize. Runners were gifted a fleece GNYER blanket in a color of their choice. The race started behind the high school, up up and up Newcomer Road and then through neighborhoods, then back. The race truly was uphill both ways, with an overall elevation gain of 171 feet (not bad for a 5k!). At the turnaround, the snow was falling and sticking to the ground (and my face), which made for a slick and slower return. Even with a slower than usual pace, I came in second in my age group and was awarded with a medal (and a sweatshirt as part of a random raffle).
