I had a great time at the Northern Ohio Mountain Bike Series (NOMBS) season opener at Camp Tuscazoar last Sunday. It was my first race after moving up to Cat 2/Sport and the competition was definitely on a higher level. I had a solid first lap (~5.5mi) about a minute faster than last year, but suffered a mechanical on the second lap with a stick getting stuck between my frame and derailleur. I lost several minutes getting it repaired and likely a couple places in my age group. My third (and final) lap felt strong back to nearly the pace of the first. Overall I’m happy with 9th out of 13 considering the issues I dealt with. I learned a lot about the class and look forward to the next time I get to race in it.
