RAY ….COLUMBUS 1/2

Columbus 1/2 – October 19:

1:24:11, 93rd overall (out of 10,411). 5th in my age group. Overall, we had optimum race conditions, and with a new course, some challenges I had not experienced in the first couple of miles of previous Columbus Half/Full marathons. I went out a little aggressively given the elevation climb in the first 2.5 miles, and paid for that a bit later, with a relatively slower paces for mile 8, 11, and 12 (7-15 seconds off goal pace). On the plus side, the new course did take us past Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which was an added bonus. It was a lifetime PR age-graded (now I AM starting to sound old!), but not for the “raw time”. Close but no PR!

ANGELA…….WALSH 5K

It was a very small run for the their homecoming weekend festivities. Mostly students, a few alumni and myself (my friend works in financial aid there and invited me to tag along). It was just stop watch timed, but they had someone measure it for distance. I had a good run. Nice to do one so small and not have to weave around people the whole time. New PR for me 28:49 (but again just stop watch timed).

ANGELA…NIAGARA FALLS, HALF

Ran my first 1/2 at the Mighty Niagara in Niagara Falls NY on Saturday. Wanted to finish in less than 2:30, but the 15-20 mph winds had other plans. First 9 miles weren’t bad, but at mile 9 our direction changed and we headed into the wind. Started cramping up at mile 10.5 and had to keep stopping to walk out the cramps. I ended up finishing in 2:34:40. Happy to have finished it and now the bar is set for the next one.
