Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

Today we ran with Bob Smith in our hearts!  I was lucky to have known and run with Bob. Bob always had a huge smile and words of encouragement for everyone out on the course. I know that he is smiling down on us as we celebrate him at this 6th annual 5K memorial race.
Easy directions and plenty of free parking
Organized indoor packet pick up, staging, restrooms, and awards.
Gun start- chip timing on a flat, fast well marked course.
Plenty of friendly volunteers, water aid station, and police presence for safety
Awesome after party with pizza, fruit, delicious protein balls, and other snacks!
Door prizes and awards for overall and 10 year age group winners.
Happy to place 6th overall female and earn 1st in my age group this chilly Sunday afternoon.
Loved hanging with some fellow Team ER peeps! Congratulations to all!
$20 entry fee with a nice SS Tee or $10 no shirt option is the best deal in town.
All proceeds got toward local HS scholarships.
Race Recap By Josh Keane:
The 6th annual Run with Bob was fun as always. A great race with friends old and new. Flat and fast through Tuscora Park and the neighborhood in New Philadelphia. It is never a bad idea to get out together and remember friends who have gone before us. Very well organized and indoor packet pick up as well as after party. We had a great turn out for Team ER as well. I ran a little slow today and ended up taking fourth in my age group. Over all it was a great day and another race we are likely to do again.
Race Recap By Nancy Wardell:
I completed the Run For Bob 5k in New Philadelphia, OH today with a nice handful of Team ER teammates! Congratulations to everyone who ran today! This is a great course and is marked very very well. Great after party and award ceremony that is held inside with pizza, bananas, chips, clementines, and peanut butter protein balls that were delicious! I finished 5th in my age group at 30:09 and a pace of 9:42.
Race Recap By Kelli Tomblin:
I had a a cold but fun “Run for Bob” Good times with both my Bolivar Run Club & Team ER friends! Love encouraging & congratulating my friends for doing a great job on their races!  It was nice to see my Team ER friends along with my Bolivar Run Club peeps!

Event Recap By Josh Keane:

Holy ice balls!! What a challenge. The Road Apple Roubaix is an event that we love because it is so much fun. Deep down in side though, each year it is such a tough event with a well deserved reward at the end. Yes, this year it was around 20 degrees with 10-20 mph winds and on one downhill stretch I was going about 30 mph! Wearing just shorts may not have been the right call on this one because almost immediately my legs did not want to push anything up and down the hills! Trying to keep our fingers warm was a little tough but we kept pushing forward and eventually finished 25.88 miles total and about 1,700 ft of elevation gain. Packet pick up was a breeze indoors. Swag is awesome and my favorite after braving the cold is getting back inside for chili and beer!! A lot of great activities afterwards as well and a great crowd of people to enjoy it with. Would not change a thing about this event and will certainly be participating again.

Event Recap By Lisa Keane:

The Road Apple Roubaix is a unique event bringing together novice bikers (like myself) with elite athletes and everyone in between!
The RDs make it clear that this is an event and not a race. However, with spring right around the corner so many elite bikers come out to compete in preparation for the upcoming race season.
Choose from the 25 mile or 50 mile distance and enjoy scenic back road views. While this might sound like a relaxing morning ride, don’t be deceived! Be prepared for gravel, mud, and ice as you dodge potholes and Amish ROAD APPLES! The hills are no joke! I chose the 25 mile option and logged almost 1700” of elevation gain.
The event is held late winter / early spring in Ohio so the weather can be unpredictable. This year was especially brutal with temps in the low 20s to start and they continued to drop to the mid teens by the time I crossed the finish line!
Easy directions and plenty of close / free parking
Organized and easy indoor packet pick up / staging / restrooms
Well marked course on gravel / paved roads.
Roads are not closed and traffic can be traveling fast at times.
Two well stocked aid stations plus one beer / water station.
Amazing after party with vegetarian or meat lovers chili, beer, giveaways, and raffles plus music and an MC hosting arm and leg wrestling contests.
All athletes get a fun SS tee and a pint glass.

Event Recap By Lisa Keane:

I am generally not a fan of virtual events – this one being the exception!
Easy online registration- choose to compete as an individual or join a team. The more the merrier in my opinion!
Taji 100 allows you to log 100 miles (bike / run / walk / swim / hike / row) during the month of February.
As you work towards your goal, you compete against individuals within your team while your team is competing against all of the other teams.
Sign up with friends and log miles together!
Individually, you earn virtual badges – everything from 7 day streak to National Pizza Day!
All participants get a cool LS tech shirt, water bottle, patch, sticker, HUGE finisher medal with 7 interchangeable magnets, and bib.
All proceeds benefit Tram RWB veterans group.
Event Recap By Josh Keane:
When you participate in so many events annually and take time to reflect, it is amazing how many different reasons have have to get out and participate. The Taji 100 is one that is very important to me for multiple reasons. Raising funds to support Team RWB (a veterans charity trying to enrich the lives of veterans through physical and social activities) is a good reason. Honoring and remembering those that served at Camp Taji is another. At the end of the day, one of the best reasons is pushing ourselves to be active and stay motivated as well as disciplined in our efforts to get physically fit. Not to mention the fantastic swag you get for participating and crushing your goals every year! I did not get as many miles as I usually do this year but this is one of the few virtual events that year after year I am more than happy to participate in.
Event Recap By Lynett McClay:
Participating in this virtual event provides motivation to persevere through the challenging winter months. You get to compete with not only yourself but with others. You can run, walk, swim, or bike. This year is no exception. Despite contracting a virus with a 102 temperature and severe cough over the last two days, I completed the final 3 miles by walking. Fortunately, the temperature was not extremely cold that day. This event supports veterans nationwide and includes a complimentary long-sleeve t-shirt, medal, and bib.

Race Recap By Lisa Keene:

I absolutely LOVE this race! Super organized and family friendly- this race is So. Much. Fun!
Tons of friendly volunteers. All athletes have full use of their beautiful facility including locker rooms, lockers and showers.
Easy directions and tons of parking. Easy packet pick up, with pre assigned heats.

The pool is located right off of the locker room and you swim 2 to a lane (I got lucky and had my own) for 15 minutes to get as many laps as you can. I did the front crawl and earned 22 laps! 10 minute transition doesn’t sound like a lot but I was able to shower off the chlorine and change into my land clothes before heading to the gym with plenty of time. 20 minutes on the stationary bike to get as much distance as possible. You were allowed to play with the resistance this year and my strategy went out the window as I fluctuated between 1 -7 and I ended up with 4.72 miles
The bike area is the main hub with music, an MC, and all the snacks! 5 minute transition to catch your breath and change your shoes before you walk upstairs to the indoor track. The indoor track is open air above the lower gym and bike area allowing you to see and hear all the action. 20 minute run to get as many laps as you can. I was happy to get 27 laps / 2.33 miles today!

All athletes received a nice soft cotton shirt and water bottle. Overall and age group award winners will be determined once all heats are completed and awards will be mailed. I will definitely do this one again!

Race Recap By Josh Keane:

The Mandel JCC Indoor Triathlon and Biathlon was a lot of fun again this year. This is the second time that we have done this even and both times we had a great time. The facility is spectacular and all of the folks that work there were extremely nice and helpful. The stationary bikes were brand new and extremely comfortable. The indoor track is upstairs and it is 12 laps to a mile. I did the biathlon but did go in to watch Lisa Keane for her swimming portion and the pool is really nice as well. The cotton shirt is nice and they also gave each participant a nice hand towel as well. There was a nice area in the gym where the bike portion is heals where they had water, coffee, bagels, granola bars, oranges, bananas and pretzels. They also have a team relay option available so if anyone is interested next year you can have a relay team to divide and conquer the three portions of the tri. Not sure of prizes, but I was able to win first place in the biathlon with 7.16 miles on the bike as well as 39 laps in the run. This event is an absolute blast and I am sure that we will be attending next year!

Worked great and  I needed it!  My 1st actual trail race but I couldn’t run the whole time due to ice, snow, uneven areas, hilly etc. Different terrain than I am used to running on. But I would do it again! I had fun with my girlfriends! Very well marked with pretty scenery.

Swim Recap By Lisa Keane:

The event was super organized and fun with tons of volunteers, snacks, and goody bag.
This year it included my very first swim medal ever!
Swimmers begin on the hour and have 50 minutes to complete as many laps as they can using any stroke of their choice. Front crawl for me!
I completed 36 laps last year but with my sad training plan and this lingering cold, I was hoping to break 30.
I could not be happier with my 40 laps today!
Thank you to all of my sponsors- together we raised $185 for the adult and youth swim program! You are the best!

Race Recap By Scott Orlando:

This morning I ran my first race of 2025. I wasn’t confident how things would go because I have been nursing a sore back since my last race on New Year’s Eve. Thankfully my back held out and I had an enjoyable run.

The Frostbite 5K certainly lived up to its name! Morning temperatures were in the high teens with a chilly wind.  Being a prediction race you win by being closest to your predicted time not by being the fastest. Because speed isn’t a factor in winning I dialed down my pace to a predicted time of 24:10. I finished in a time of 24:35 placing 17th overall.

Participants received hoodies and much needed hand warmers. There were plenty of snacks available post race. The course revisions made for a smoother and improved 2 loop running experience around the lake.

Thank you to Brittany Kiehl for volunteering for early packet pick up and to Mike Williams who stuck around to help clean up.
Congratulations to Kelli Tomblin for making her Team-ER race debut and to Gretchen Snyder, Mike Williams, and Terri Bednar for completing the race.

Thank you to Josh Ritchie, Mickey Rzymek, Summit Athletic Running Club, and all the volunteers that put on another great race.
Congratulations to the 112 fearless souls that braved the cold and crossed the finish line.

Race Recap By Josh Keane:

I am not sure why, but the races with unpredictable weather, terrain and temperatures always seem to be my favorites! This was our first time tunning the Dirty Snowflake and it did not disappoint! Very unique set up with a two mile course and two race options. The aid station was in doors with great food, support and a chili cook off! Option one was the 3×2 which you could run as many loops as you wanted (take breaks in between loops, eat some chili, take a nap), then your three fastest laps would be your finish. The other option was to run all four hours and compete for the most loops completed. The course wax a frozen tundra at the start of the race and slowly got beat down as the day went on. A very challenging day on a fairly flat two mile course. I was certainly not setting any personal PR but somehow still managed to win first in my age group.

Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

Dirty Snowflake 4 Hour and 3×2 Mile
Easy directions and plenty of parking close to the start / finish line.  Organized packet pick up and indoor staging / restrooms.
Chip timing for this well marked, 2 mile loop on half road / half trail with minimal elevation. Unique race allows you to choose a 4 hour endurance run to get as many loops as you can or 3×2 counts your fastest 3 loops. Individual start / finish mats gives you the option to rest, fuel, change, etc.. between loops without time penalty. Monitor the rolling results posted throughout the race to determine if you want to try to improve your time or go out for an extra fun loop or two!
Cold temps made conditions extra icy and challenging this year!  Well stocked aid station.
Several vendors with give a ways and a chili cook off for you to sample and then vote for your favorite!
Short sleeve tees / hoodies and finisher medals for all participants.  3rd place age group earned me a nice pin for my ribbon!

The locally brewed breakfast beer was also fantastic! Very fun atmosphere! Great tshirt and medal too. Ran pretty fast and got my first ever first place master finish! Would recommend this race if you are ever in Houston and the timing is right.

Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

Choco Loco 5K
Organized and easy packet pick up night before or same day. Same day packet pick up volunteers hold your shirt for you until after the race. Super convenient for us as we walked several blocks from our hotel room to the event. Chip timed out and back race- 5K and 10K start together with slightly different turn around and 1 lap vs 2. Well marked road race blocked off around the park and plenty of police / volunteer presence for safety.
Fun course with several hills to add a little challenge. …Texas is not as flat as they advertise.

All runners receive a fun, soft short sleeve tee and finishers medal. Fun party atmosphere with music, Photo Booth, vendors, and give – a-ways plus lots of beer, drinks, snacks and CHOCOLATE!  Wooden award plaques for top 3 overall winners. Congrats Josh Keane on your 1st place Overall Masters!
I managed to place 1st in my age group – awards to be mailed out at a later date.

Race Recap By George McFall:

Happy New Year, Team ER! Yesterday, I laced up the shoes to run the Great New Year’s Eve 5K. This is a race I have done several times but it didn’t making running it any easier. It is the same rolling hill course and that final big climb before getting a downhill to the finish line is still there. The weather was perfect. The rain stayed away and the temp was around 44-45 degrees.

I shot out of the start line to get into a good position because I didn’t want to be caught in the crowd as we made the left turn onto Newcomer. My first mile was 6:40 pace. It would have been great to hold that pace but I gave some time back each mile after that which was expected based on the not so flat course. My finishing time was 21:36 which was good enough for 2nd place in my age group. The 50-54 age group was very competitive – the guy who finished first came in at 21:33 and 3rd place was 22:26. Team ER did very well. It was good to see the tradition of handing out socks for age group awards hasn’t changed. I mean we could all use socks. It was a great way to end my 2024 running season

Race Recap By Scott Orlando:

I have a love hate relationship with the Great New Year’s Eve 5K race held annually in Stow, Ohio.   Being that this race is just down the street from my house and held on my birthday make it hard for me not to compete in this race.  I also like the idea of ending the year with one last race.   The hate part of this race for me is that the weather conditions are typically horrible and the course is very difficult challenging runners with hill after hill.
This year the weather conditions were threatening rain but cleared up right before the start making for better than normal conidiations for this race.  The temperature was in the 40’s with some decent wind gusts but overall not too bad.
I had been training for this race the last couple of weeks by getting some miles in on the actual course to familiarize myself with every hill in order to come up with a race day strategy.  I felt fairly confident and prepared for the race.
Unfortunately my race didn’t go especially how I would have liked. For some reason I just wasn’t feeling it and couldn’t get to my usual pace. My lower back tightened up a few hours before the race and is very tight now so maybe that had something to do with it.   I  had a decent first mile at a 7:17 mile pace, but then slowed down from there.  Each mile I lost more time on the hills.   I tried to make a late push in the last half mile but it was a little too late to make up any real time.   In any case I still managed to place 3rd in my division with a time of 23:55 which was a minute slower than last year and by far my slowest 5K of the year. The Great New Year’s Eve 5K was by far the hilliest course I ran all year so there is definitely a feeling of accomplishment just completing this race.
All runners receive a race logoed fleece blanket and custom bib.  There were plenty of snacks after the race.  All pre and post race activities were held inside which was nice.  The race was well organized.
It was great seeing so many Team-ER members at the race. Congratulations to Team ER members George Mc Fly, Roy Miller, and Lisa Keane who also earned division awards! Congratulations to Josh Keane, Mike Williams and Jerry Lynch who completed the race.
Thank you to Kevin Christensen, Leslie Christensen, and Steve Hailer for volunteering.
Thank you to Josh Ritchie, Mickey Rzymek, Summit Athletic Running Club, and all the volunteers that put on another great race.
Congratulations to everyone that conquered the hills and crossed the finish line.
Race Recap By Lisa Keane:
Easy directions with plenty of parking close to the start / finish line.  Organized and easy packet pick up.
Gun start, chip timed out and back race on a well marked, fun, and challenging road course.
Ample police presence for safety and I was pleasantly surprised by all the neighborhood cheerleaders!
Blankets and snacks for all participants and socks for top 3 overall and age group winners!
Soft and fun hoodies available for purchase.  Despite the hills, I was able to place 2nd in my age group and scored some great new socks!
As always, so nice to celebrate the holidays and run with fellow Team ER members!
HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!   And an extra special HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to Scott and Jerry!   Can’t wait to see you all in 2025!
