Race Recap By Lori Fritz:
I ran the Wurst 5k in Kent today. It was a little different, but still very nice. Wasn’t given an actual address, so I typed Heritage Park, Kent, into Google and it told me I had reached my destination when I got to Heritage Barbershop. Close enough. I figured it out, and still got there just as they were setting up for the festival. Race bibs showed up about half an hour later–45 minutes before start of the 11:30 race. Race bibs had no chip, and I’m not 100% sure that anyone did any timing, except the runners with their watches. After the turnaround point, I did count about 63 people behind me, and I made sure they stayed there. When I crossed the finish line, I was handed the swag, which was a fanny pack and a pretzel necklace, which I thought was a neat idea for finish line award.
The race was an out and back along the Cuyahoga river, but fairly scenic to me since I had never been there before. Their park is beautiful and I loved the architecture of the buildings!
I had the pleasure to meet another teammate, Kelsie, and I very much enjoyed the complimentary beer and brat afterwards.
The only thing I hope they do next year is have water at the finish line.
Would I run this one again? Not sure. I might. I actually enjoyed its simplicity, and found it kind of refreshing. If I do, I’m carrying water for sure.
