Race Recap By Ken Frankenbery:

I wanted to get in one race for 2023 after having Hamstring surgery in March.  I have focused on biking and rehab so I hadn’t been running much, but wanted to get in a race for 2023 and gauge my fitness. I found a small race just North of Tampa a couple weeks ago-signed up just before it sold out

A cool start (45 degree’s), limited field (sold out at 75 people) but a great venue along the Gulf on a running path.  I finished in 22:54, 1st in age group, 8th overall.

I left race and did a 50 mile bike ride.  My hamstring felt solid and I am so happy to be racing again!

Race Recap By Kristi Quesenberry Gunyula:

I ended the year with The Resolution Run 5k at Crocker Park. I went into it hoping to break 20 minutes, but knew in order to do this, I was really going to have to leave it all out there. The course was an out and back and pretty fast and flat. I was feeling pretty strong during mile 3 and as I ran back into Crocker Park and made the last turn towards the finish line, I saw the clock. I had less than 10 seconds to get there and I knew it was going to be close. I managed to make it across the line in 19:57. Such a great feeling and nice way to end the season! 14 weeks until Boston. I haven’t run a full marathon in 2 years. Excited to train hard and see what I can do in 2024. Let’s Go!

I placed 1st in my decade (1980-1989), 4th female, and 21st overall.
Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors for your support and special thanks to The Resolution Run Crew for organizing and putting on a great race.

Race Review By Roy Miller:

It was great to get back on my feet at a race after all my soccer reffing was done for the year.
This was a 5 mile course starting in Hudson on the square and a loop course.
The course was much like 2023. It started out tough with a pretty solid uphill and then things leveled out. There were lots of ups and downs but finished on a nice downhill grade. I saw lots of friends at the race and was happy with my results. I decided that this race and going forward I am going to race for fun and listen to my body.  It was a great race and the Happiest of Holidays to all. I am looking forward to representing Team ER in 2024.

I completed the Spirit of the Season 5k Presented by Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton today! I ran into Ms. Cleopatra Sirnic Clifford and got some fresh air. Not one of my best finish times, but I enjoyed the good company and another race in the books.

Bike Ride Recap By Ken Frankenbery:

This was my 4th year doing this event, but this year was very unique.
Shortly after last year’s Hilly 100, I tore my left hamstring. So, on March 22nd I had surgery. My goal after surgery-was to get back in shape to make the 2023 Hilly 100. I knew the time line was tight.  The doctor said no heavy exercise for 6 months (Ok I started earlier), but riding & getting strength back in my leg took much longer than I anticipated. I was riding well on flats.  I found I could compensate with my “good leg”, but hills showed there was no rushing getting muscle strength back.

Training was going well-but I had race days nerve’s wondering how my leg would hold up for 100 miles & over 4700 feet of elevation. Weather was warmer than usual with temps in the mid 80’s with high humidity.

I had this ride on my calendar since last year but I screwed up on start time, and showed up a hour late. Nothing I could do but ride it alone. Riding in a group (drafting) is a huge advantage, but the biggest issue riding late meant the police escort was gone, and I was riding solo on some busy roads which was scary stuff. Plus starting later meant being in the heat of the day.  This ride was one of hardest I have done and it was brutal.  My time was much slower than last year, but hard to compare riding solo. I am just glad my hamstring held up and I finished.

This ride is a fundraiser for a local charity.  The course was well-marked and well organized by Crank Works bike shop. Mark and Pat the owners do a great job organizing event even marking roads by hand.

Race Recap By Steve Zenar:

I had a wonderful time at the Kent Trot today! I was happy with my time but boy did my age group deliver some fast paced running; unfortunately, landing me in 10th place for my age group. It was awesome seeing so many Team-ER members representing today and I couldn’t have asked for better weather this time of year!
Off to eat turkey and hopefully take a nap.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Race Recap By Kristi Quesenberry Gunyula

I ask my kids all the time if they’d like to run/race with me, but the response is always the same, “Nope, but wake me up when you get home”  Until today, when Grace asked if she could join me at the Annual Tree City Turkey Trot in Kent. It was so fun to run alongside her and cheer her on at her first 5K.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Race Recap By Nancy Wardell:

It was great seeing so many teammates at the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K in Kent this morning! I finished at a total time of 28:11 with a pace of 9:04. I didn’t place today, but congratulations to those that did! It was great seeing everyone and a great day for a run!
