Race Recap By Nancy Wardell:
Ran the CAK 5K on the runway this morning in Canton, Ohio! So many friends were at this race which made it quite memorable and tons of fun!! Shout out to all my fellow teammates including Lisa Keane, Lori Fritz, Felicia Neal, Lynett McClay, and Josh Keane! Huge shout out to Lori for grabbing my bib since the buses were running late and by the time I got to the starting line, there was only 5 minutes before go time! You’re a life saver!! I finished at a total time of 21:41 with a pace of 6:59 giving me first place in the masters division! The award was a captains hat which I absolutely love, especially since my Dad was a pilot in the Air Force and commercial airlines. I also placed second in my age group for the afterburner sprint which is a race inside the race of 100 meter dash around the two mile marker. I finished at 25:12 and earned my gold wings pin which attached to my pilot hat. Beautiful weather and another great race in the books!
Race Recap By Lisa Keane:
One of my top 5 favorite 5Ks!
Flat & fast race on the runway with so many planes and helicopters all along the course and even an active plane flying over! Loved this so much!!!
Extra after burner challenge mid race for a race within a race!
Nice swag & awards 3 deep / 5 year increments.
Beautiful and cool morning – I felt great and was super happy placing 1st out of 46 in my age group!
Race Recap y Felicia Neal:
Event #53 was CAK5K On The Runway at Maps Air Museum in Canton Ohio. This was my first time participating in this race and I will do it again! Unless you pay for VIP parking you will have to shuttle over from Kent State or Timken. Our designated shuttle location was Kent and I am so thankful we got there an hour before the race. We had to wait for our shuttle and we did not get to Maps till 15 min before the start. It was fun to run on the runway and there where planes flying over back and forth leaving contrails. I would definitely run this race again. They had 5K pacers which was a first for me and next time i might try and PR. I got 7th in my age group and will try harder next year!
Race Recap By Lori Fritz:
Another beautiful morning to race!! I always enjoy this race. I have ran this one since its inception in 2016.
So very excited this year though, because I actually (finally!!) placed in my age group!! And!! And!! I placed in the Afterburner!!
I had no expectations this morning, since I had raced yesterday. I can’t help but think that with the delays in the bussing, it added to the adrenaline rush.
Did so much better than I honestly thought I would!
Finished in 28:32, which gave me third in my age group, and did the Afterburner in 27 seconds and change, which gave me 2nd place in that arena!!
Oh, and BTW, I absolutely LOVE this picture of us and it’s not so much about us as it is about the sunlight behind the flag, the blue sky with the high clouds that makes it absolutely awesome!
