It was a warm, sunny morning and a decent crowd of maybe 150 or so people. Teamate Mark Gorris was running with his son ( who did great!), and after a 20 minute delay(and several warm ups- police showed up late )- we were off! There were half a dozen younger high school runners who shot off to the lead, following them up the first hill I was so excited to be racing, I looked down and was running a 5:45 pace (way to fast) – I tried to slow, but wanted to keep leaders in sight, hit mile 1 at 6:05 (and that was up hill). I finally settled into a better pace, and started picking off a few of the people in front of me. The temp. was climbing ( 77 degrees when we finished) , but I felt good. Finished strong in 19:40 ( 6:19 pace).Waiting for results to be posted, but 4th overall, 1st in age group, a solid comeback after surgery!
Glad to be back racing, and hopefully will be able to start swimming mid-July.
