Race Review By Scott Orlando

The Annual Great New Year’s Eve 5K was another fantastic race put on by the Josh Ritchie, Mickey Rzymek, and the wonderful people of Summit Athletic Runners Club.   The highlight of this year’s race was definitely the weather.   This race is notorious for some of the most brutal weather and running conditions mother nature can through at you but not this year.  Runners were treated to almost ideal running conditions with very light winds and temperatures in the 50’s.   The warm weather brought out almost 400 runners, walkers and even dogs to the course.   There were actually so many dogs at the race barking and howling at the start I wasn’t sure if I was lined up to run a race or go on a fox hunt!   The race was moved back to the traditional location of Stow High School.  The 2020 race was moved to downtown Kent, Ohio because of COVID.   The traditional Stow, Ohio course is always a challenge featuring more than enough hills to put the best runners to the test.   Running up the hills of Newcomer Rd in the final half mile of the race is always tough.   All runners received t-shirts and Bio Freeze patches plus a great selection of post race snacks.   This race is always tough but a great way to end the year with one last run.

Ride Review By Ken Frankenbery:

This was my second year doing the 100. A tough day to dress for with 40’s & heavy fog to start at 730 am  but upper 70’s & sunny by noon. Knowing what was coming helped ( 4700 feet of climbing), and having my good friend Juan join me really was a plus. But not doing any group rides made it tough to stay with the pack as I just didn’t feel comfortable with so many riders so close. A rider in front of me had a flat on a fast downhill and that was enough for me so I dropped back & let group go. I picked up a few smaller groups to work with & still had to dig deep into the suitcase of courage after mile 80. A great ride with great company & so lucky to be able to train in Florida!

Race Review By Scott Orlando

This was my third year competing in the Mansfield Lexington Turkey Trot.  The race offers a 5K, course, 10k course, and half marathon course.  I again chose the 10K.   Weather conditions were less then ideal with strong winds and heavy rains.  The field was a little smaller then last year most likely do to the rain and a lot of registered runners electing to sleep in and skip the soggy run.   The course for all three distances is a fast and flat out and back on the paved bike trail.    I had a solid run mostly sticking to my pace goals.  I finished a little slower then last year but still very happy with my ability to push the pace the last few miles and finish 4th overall and 1st in my division.  All runners receive performance hoodies, mini pies, and finisher medals.   The race again was very well organized.
