Race Recap By Lisa Keane:
The longest Ohio winter – let’s break it up w/ an indoor triathlon!
Love this race & all the friendly volunteers running it! Shout out to the lovely lady checking me in. Josh signed up for the duathlon- there is only one leg and it is 1st (8:15)
There are 8 legs of the tri and you don’t get to pick. I was assigned 8th (12:30)
That lovely lady noticed the time discrepancies and took it upon herself to find me a spot in the 3rd wave! (10:45) Made our day so much smoother!
Beautiful facility! Pool Swim 15 / Stationary bike 20 / Indoor Track run 20 then add it all up for your final score!
Nice swag, awards, & post event snacks.
Race Recap By Scott Orlando:
I had a fun morning at the Mandel JCC competing in the indoor triathlon / biathlon. I wasn’t 100% race ready today but thought this race would be a lot more fun than training on the dreadmill or braving the cold outside. I competed in the biathlon which was a 20 minute spin bike followed by a 20 minute run on the 12th of a mile track.
My bike leg started off rough with my bike computer failing to start. The race officials quickly fixed the problem and restarted the bike. Each bike computer had its own timer so I did get the full 20 minutes completed. My completed bike mileage seemed very low. Either the computer wasn’t working or my resistance was set too low. I logged just 5.5 miles They did inform us that increased resistance would correlate to more distance gained. I thought I had dialed up the resistance. For whatever reason the bike leg set me very far behind other competitors.
The run leg went much better. I had the fastest run leg in the individual biathlon field logging 31.5 laps around the small track.
The results posted so far are a little confusing but I think I was 5th overall. The bike leg really killed my overall score. I have no idea how the divisions or award categories work.
The race was very well organized and all of the volunteers and race organizers were very helpful and friendly. All participants received a nice soft t-shirt along with some other race themed swag. Post race snacks included fruit, granola bars, and donuts. Any race that has donuts at the finish is worth doing! It was fun racing with Team ER members Josh Keane and Lisa Keane.
On a cold snowy day it was great to be inside competing and training for other upcoming races. Although I have volunteered several times for indoor triathlons and biathlons this was my first time competing in one. I highly recommend and look forward to doing it again.
