Race Recap By Brittany Kiehl:
I can’t believe this was my tenth year completing this race. I walked and pushed the double stroller with the boys. There were over 5,000 participants registered this year, which they stated was their biggest turnout. New this year was being inside Canal Park and the start line in front of the ballpark. The new course avoided the towpath. So it was not as congested in years past because it was entirely on the roads in Akron. I missed being along the towpath this year. I still had a tough time trying to navigate through all the walkers with a double stroller. And the course felt harder with all the up hill and downhill.
I loved the magnetic medals. You are also given the option to receive another medal for carrying a pumpkin throughout the race (tough pumpkin). The long sleeve shirts are festive with a jack-o-lantern face. This year, though, I was not a huge fan of the off white color with a purple face. It didn’t feel very fall to me. The finishers area felt congested because the coffee trailer was so close to the tables with cider. It was confusing as to which line people were in. It was almost next to impossible to push the double stroller along the sidewalks. Overall, it is a fun fall tradition.
