Race Recap By Scott Orlando:

I had a challenging race today at the Headwaters Adventure Triathlon. Between training and soccer I overdid it the week before the race and toed the start line with extremely tight hips and posterior chain muscles. My 2 mile run was a struggle but not terrible. I started my GPS watch early so I was running blind not knowing my pace. I finished the run in 13th place. My struggles continued on the hilly 10 mile bike course placing me 15th heading into the transition to the kayak leg. I was feeling pretty defeated but then I started making up ground thanks to my Stellar Kayaks SR Multisport. The 1st mile of the 5 mile kayak leg was a little slow as I navigated tight lines passing several slower kayakers. Each mile I passed more kayakers and by mile 3 I was in 7th place and back in the race. I found another gear catching and passing a few more kayakers finally making it to the finish line placing 3rd overall with a time of 1:50:12. I actually would have beaten last year’s time had I not got hung up about 100 meters from the finish which cost me about a minute. I had the fastest kayak leg split in today’s race which gives me confidence for my next race.

I was really excited to see Team ER members Steve Zenar and Mike Williams do so well in their first kayak triathlon. Congratulations to Veronica Judith who was the 3rd place overall female finisher, Mike Foley, Vincent J. Elia, and Skip Brunner who all one their division, Russ Neubert who placed 2nd in his division, and to all of my other friends that did so well!

Thank you the Kristi Kato, the Portage Park District Foundation, and all of the volunteers who worked hard to put on a great race today.

Race Recap By Veronica Neubert:

Competing in the Headwaters triathlon this morning (after getting home at midnight) was tough! I felt good on the run, pretty good on the bike, but the river had other plans (including so many tree branches! Thank you to Russ for letting me use his kayak!
The results said I finished 4th female overall – I was crushed – I’ve placed in the top 3 every time I’ve done this race and I felt prepared. But, there was a technical error and I ended up finishing 3rd overall.
Only 24 seconds out of second place – had I not gotten hung up on the river … but I’m happy, I’m proud, I worked hard.

Race Recap By Steve Zenar:

I had a wonderful time at my first-ever Headwaters Adventure Triathlon. It was awesome racing alongside several Team-ER members and getting some last‑minute tips and bumps along the course.
Since this was my first time doing the event, it was a great learning experience — and a fun return to multisport racing after not doing a triathlon in several years. The course was a solid challenge: a smooth 2‑mile out‑and‑back run, a hilly 10‑mile bike, and a 5‑mile kayak to finish.
I paced the run conservatively to save my legs for the bike, which paid off as I was able to pass several racers on the climbs. Renting a kayak made participation easy, though it definitely required some extra paddle strength to keep up with competitors using race gear. Still, I held my own and was proud of my placing as a first‑timer (2nd in Age Group) — especially considering I almost never kayak.
Now that I understand how the point‑to‑point transitions work, I’m confident I can improve even more next time. Overall, I really enjoyed this race and hope to do it again. On to the next one

Well I had a very productive Saturday! First I volunteered at the Strawberry Festival 5k and enjoyed checking in a sold out race! Then I competed in the Eagle Up Ultra 100 mile Relay and completed a Solo 50k! I am over joyed that I had the opportunity to participate in the relay with an amazing team! We got a over 100 miles!
As for my 50k, I am so happy with my time! Next year I will try for 100k. I had such a wonderful weekend with friends and I feel so blessed.

Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

I had a great time hanging with my bestie while we volunteered in the merch tent, beer garden, packet pick up, and aid station!
Congratulations to all of our Team ER volunteers and finishers!

Race Recap By Lynett McClay:

Volunteering Friday and Saturday was a lot of fun. Packet pick up was very easy and runners packets were already put together. Last year’s swag up for sale . Aid stations well stocked will all runners needs. It was a very busy weekend!

I ran the Bolivar Strawberry Festival 5K on Saturday. It was a little warmer than I like. Finished in 25:03 and got 2nd in my age group. Glad to see Team ER members at the race and also a lot of other people I know.

Race Recap By Nancy Wardell:

I ran the Strawberry Festival 5k in Bolivar this morning with so many teammates and running friends!!Definitely a little bit warmer than I expected, but this event is always so well organized and I love the award ceremony in the big tent afterwards where everyone can hang out and enjoy the snacks and even a free strawberry beer if you’d like! My grandson did fantastic running the seedling scamper too! The course for the 5K is pretty flat, but definitely has some long stretches on the road in the sunlight, so you should be careful and prepared! Congrats Kris Engstrom for placing and to Lori Fritz for hosting another great 5k!! I finished with a total time of 28:15 and pace of 9:06 which I’m super happy with!! I placed 3rd in my age group!!

3rd race this weekend was Kelleys Island 10K and I got 1st in my age group! This race is definitely a new favorite! The island is beautiful and we had perfect weather for a race. I went with some amazing ladies and we had a wonderful time. We went up Saturday late afternoon and stayed at a very charming lakeside gated resort on the mainland then ferried over this morning. I think this might end up being one of the races I do every year. It was well organized, lots of fun with beautiful scenery.

2nd race this weekend was the Iron Pickle 5K in Canton. The theme of the race was super fun and tied into Canton’s Pickle Festival. As for the packet pick up and the race, it was not well organized. The race was supposed to start at 8:00 am but got delayed and started at 8:45 am This is the second time I’ve done this race and lets just say the experience has been the same. Regardless it was a beautiful day for a run!

Arizona Sunrise Series 5K
Race 2/5 in the series and I wish I could run them all!
Super organized and beautiful venue
This race was sold out at 800 people!
We took advantage of the early start option for cooler temps and thinner crowds
This also allowed us to hold each other’s packets while the other ran since we UBER’d there.
Great swag – I love my purple racer back!
For the series, athletes earn one medal plus a letter for each race to spell out ARIZONA when you complete the series.
Overall and age group awards earn an additional piece that also attaches to your medal! Great concept!
I placed 4th of 32 in my AG missing 3rd by 9 seconds! I did my best so I bought myself new race themed sleeves as a condolence prize.

Race Recap By Rick Wise:

I had an awesome time competing at the NOMBS Vultures Knob Farewell MTB Race with fellow Team ER member Asad Khan. This was the second race of the series. The course was quite challenging with some steep, punchy climbs and a few longer grinds as well as a couple tricky technical spots. I still feel like I’m getting my legs under me in the longer distance Cat 2/Sport class. This race had 13.25 miles of singletrack with over 1800 ft. of elevation gain. I was happy finishing 7th out of 10 in my age group after pushing a bit too hard in the first half lap. The second lap was much more enjoyable as I tried to focus on taking in the beauty of the trails during our last race at Vultures Knob.

Race Recap By George McFall:

Freedom isn’t free. Today, we remember the heroes who gave everything for ours. 🇺🇸
This morning, I laced up my race shoes and toed the start line of the 33rd Tallmadge Memorial 5K in Tallmadge, OH. This was my first time doing this race. Packet pickup was easy, and the start line was a short walk from the packet pickup location. The course was well-marked and offered a couple of doable up hills around the 1.3 and 2.5 mile marks. It was great seeing people in the neighborhoods we ran through cheering for the runners. This was a super fun race; I highly recommend it.
I went into the race thinking a sub-22 minute time would be good. Surprisingly, I ran faster than that. My finishing time was 20:35 which is my third-fastest 5K time (20:06 and 20:11), and I placed first in my age group. I just did a marathon 4 weeks ago so it was great to see how well my legs responded to the faster pace.
Post race: overall and age group awards, water, bananas and other snacks were available.

Race Recap By Veronica Neubert:

Nice weather for a run this morning! I love running with friends #ohioteamer (5th female overall and first in my age group)

Race Recap By Roy Miller:

First time running the Tallmadge 5k. Was really not feeling well the morning leading up to the race and didn’t sleep well the night before, so had no expectations. Was hoping to be able to get through the race and if I could just stay below 9:00 pace I would call it a win. I started off well and it helped to have so many Team ER members on the course. First mile was able to turn a 7:51. I thought maybe I had a bit more in my tank. Was able to maintain my pace throughout the race and was able to average 7:49. Was really happy with the race and even though the course is not “flat” I will try to run this again. The cherry on top is that I got 2nd in my AG and got to share the awards with 2 other Team ER members George Mc Fly and Mike Williams.

Race Recap By Steve Zenar:

I had a great time running the Tallmadge Memorial Day 5K this morning in my hometown. As usual the race was well organized and full of Team ER volunteers and runners. I had a solid run; although, ran out of gas in mile 3. Thankful that my ankle is beginning to feel better and that I am getting back into the groove again. I was able to run a 7:53/mile pace overall, placing 2nd in my age group.
Wishing everyone a Safe, Happy, and Healthy Memorial Day!

Race Recap By Felicia Neal:

Today I ran Tallmadge Memorial 5K with many of my Team ER friends. Today’s race was very well organized, well marked and had wonderful volunteers! My loving husband came to cheer us on. I got 2nd in my age group which was such a wonderful surprise. I am so thankful for being apart of this amazing team! Thank you for the fellowship and miles.

Race Recap By Laura Fairfax:

I placed 1st in my age group in this years Memorial Day 5k. This season of life adds perspective to being thankful for everyday things. Love sharing the podium again with my running bestie @kelskline who placed 3rd.

Race Recap By Terri Bednar:

I ran Tallmadge Memorial 5k today. it was a last minute decision but I was still able to sign up online. Lots of my fellow Team ER peeps were there and it was a lot of fun! The course changed this year and that last hill was a challenge but it was a lot of fun! I even placed 1st in my AG! Great race, well organized, easy parking and added bonus: super close to my house! I will do this race again!

Race Recap By Mike Williams:

It was a great morning to run with some Team ER friends.

Race Recap By Lisa Keane:

I love this family friendly community race honoring those who have served our great country!
Established & organized race on a well marked (not flat) course w/ police presence for safety.
Nice swag & after party w/ music & snacks during awards.
Best part is the huge Team ER turn out for this one! I love catching up with all of my
teammates!
I was not fully recovered from running the mud fest on Saturday but surprised myself placing 1st in my age group!
Congratulations to all of our Team ER athletes! You rock!

Race Recap By Scott Orlando:

I had a great time this morning volunteering to help with race registration and other duties at the Tallmadge Memorial Day 5K.
It was a great showing for Team ER with 17 members competing and volunteering. Many of which made the podium winning division awards.
Congratulations to all of the finishers and thank you to Josh Ritchie, Mickey Rzymek, Ritchies Sporting Goods, North Coast Multisports, Summit Athletic Running Club, and all of the volunteers for putting on another great race!
