Race Recap By Nancy Wardell:

I ran the Zoar Merry Miles 5K in Zoar this morning and it was a rough one! The cold and change in elevation got this best of me and added ice and snow might the run very tricky. The turns were clearly marked though and a nice area was provided inside to warm up for the award ceremony with post race snacks and soups! I finished with a time of 30:52 and pace of 9:56 which landed me 6th out of 17 in my age group. Love the long sleeve shirt and wooden star finisher medal too!

Race Recap By Steve Zenar:

I had a wonderful (but cold) run this morning at the Kent Turkey Trot at Fred Fuller Park. My goal today was to settle in around an 8min / mile pace which I was happy to achieve! This put me 5th / 33 in my age group.
A Special thanks to Scott for taking a nice photo for me to make my post official . (Sorry to the others that I missed the post race team photo – everyone at home wanted coffee and for me to hurry back for our annual watching of the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade). Wishing you all a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable remainder of the day – Gobble Gobble!

Race Recap By Laura Fairfax:

You gotta love a good turkey trot! My son Landon placed 3rd in his age group in 23rd place overall out of 1000 runners! I placed 4th in my age group and now I’m ready for Turkey!

Race Recap By Gretchen Snyder:

On Thanksgiving morning, The Tree City Turkey Trot 5k was sold out at over 1,000 runners. I volunteered at early morning packet pick up- the line wait time was minimal and the Race Day Check-in app worked really well. I much prefer this method as opposed to the old method of using a paper list.
The start of the race was congested, and I was unable to get out as fast as I’d hoped- too many people funneling down to one small trail led to tripping and flying elbows. After about a half mile, people were spread out and the trail was more comfortably navigated.
Perhaps next year, we could have a timing strip at both the beginning and end of the race, so that people can stagger-start to avoid congestion.

Race Recap By Brittany Kiehl:

I opted to do the 1 mile this year instead of the 5K or 5 mile. It was much more enjoyable than last year when we did the 5K. This year during the 1 mile, I felt like we weren’t trying to push through huge crowds and parking on the street was easier. The 1 mile starts 45 minutes before the combined 5K and 5 mile start time. We took a nice stroll and I was able to drink a hot latte from Chickadee Coffee and Tea. The long sleeve shirts were a dark green and the medals matched. They had instant cups of noodles, bananas and pretzels at the finish line.

Race Recap By George McFall:

A Thanksgiving Day tradition continues… The Aurora Turkey Trot. I started doing this 5k race when my kids were young. I look forward to it every year! The race organizers changed up the course this year so that was fun. The race starts and finishes in front of Aurora High School. I started near the front of the corral so I could get into my lane quickly. After the first right turn, there was a long stretch of road so I was able to settle in. The wind was crazy at times. Just kept moving forward.
Mile Splits:
Mile 1 – 6:55
Mile 2 – 6:56
Mile 3 – 6:36
Last .10 – 5:53
My finishing time was 20:54, 6:45 pace. I placed 3rd in my age group (50-59). 9 seconds separated me and the first place guy. It was a very competitive age group.
I hope to do another 5k in the next 2-3 weeks.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
