I ran the Millersburg Food Run 10K this morning in Millersburg and loved all goodies and friendly volunteers as usual. It’s a very well organized race with raffle basics and a flat course that’s out and back. I finished at a total time of 51:40 and pace of 8:19, giving me second place in my age group.

Where to begin? First and foremost, what a blessed life and 25 years of marriage with Lisa Keane! This was our 25th anniversary race and it was epic! The Cirque Series Alyeska race in Girdwood, Alaska was certainly an adventure and challenging. This was an absolutely beautiful course and no joke. With 600 runners and very narrow single track, as well as very steep challenging rock climbs up rock face it was hurry up and wait at times. The climb was brutal and time consuming and the downhill was a constant slip and slide with rocks and mud! Then, as you can see in the pictures, the views are spectacular and distracting! The race was very well organized and the course was spectacular. I was a little disappointed in the swag as you did not get a shirt only a vendor hat and there were no actual race shirts available for sale either. There was an after party hours after the race at another location but no food available immediately following the race. There is no doubt I would recommend this adventure with the warning that if you do not like heights you may not want to do this on as some of the climbing is straight up rock face at 3,000 – 4,000 feet! Thank you to Lisa Keane for the best 25 years a guy could ask for! Thank you Felicia Neal (and Douglas Neal) for joining us on this adventure!

One of the most challenging races to date packing almost 4000′ of elevation gain & loss into 6.1 short (long) vertical miles thru snow, mud, rock climbing, tree obstacles, falling rocks, rope climbs, boulder fields, & the most spectacular views!
Chip timing on a well marked course gives you 50 minutes to climb 2.2 miles and 2200’ of elevation gain for a strict cut off! This can require some pushing as it can be difficult to pass on the single track trails.
The course was a little scary at times and the views were absolutely breathtaking!
Tons of volunteers and rescue on course to keep everyone safe.
Swag was a very nice hat but I traveled from Ohio to Alaska for this race and would have loved a shirt or hat with the race name on it and not just the brand name of the hat. 🤷‍♀️
Nice overall / age group awards 3 deep were cash and gear!
I had the best time celebrating our 25th anniversary and doing hard things with my blue shirt guy! We did not get lost, squished, or eaten!

I attempted Cirque 6.1 miler located in Alyeska Resort, AK. It had steep elevation and unfortunately I did not meet the cut off by 2 minutes. So I did not finish in Alaska but I am kind of glad since the ridge line was not for the faint of heart and I probably would have freaked out. Regardless I had a nice 4 mile hike with beautiful views! I had such a wonderful experience all thanks to Lisa Keane and Josh Keane for inviting us to tag along with them in Alaska!

It was a beautiful morning on the Grand River in Fairport Harbor for the Ohio State Canoe, Kayak, and Paddleboard Championships. I competed in the 5 mile race which was loaded with national champions and state champions from previous years. I chose to race in the medium race boat division using my Stellar Kayaks S18SEXP Multisport from Performance Kayak & Surfski Inc.

From the start I knew this race was going to be a battle. I had a decent start and quickly fell into position among the top 10 kayaks. After about a mile of paddling the top 5 kayaks pulled away from the rest of the field. I was in 6th position with kayaks hot on my stern. At times the other kayaks challenged but I was able to hold them off. My pace was good in the narrow parts of the river and heading downriver. The water really slowed and got heavy on the sections of the river where it widened and the current churned. This is especially true near the turnaround buoy. I was pushing hard through the slow water trying not to give up ground to the kayaks behind me. Once I hit the turnaround buoy my plan was to kick it into high gear to the finish. I could hear the other kayaks close behind me but I was still holding my position. With 100 meters to go a kayak caught me and we were side by side sprinting to the finish. I couldn’t hold the lead any longer and gave up 6th place by 14 seconds. Overall I finished 7th. Surprisingly I finished 3rd in my race division and earned a bronze medal. With such a tough race field today going home with any medal was a huge victory. This was the hardest I have ever paddled at this race to earn a medal. The competition was fierce. There was no resting or time for mistakes. What a race!

All paddlers received nice t-shirts. There were plenty of snacks including donuts and a PB and J station.

Unfortunately I decided to pass on the Dog Days of Summer July 18th because of the air quality. However I was able to run Minerva Strong 5K that was originally scheduled for July 17th but was prostponed to July 18th. This race was very well organized small town race. The Race Director was very passionate about the event. We ran through a little bit of Minerva and past a dairy processing plant that was very smelly. I did get 3rd in my age group!

I ran Up, Up and Away 5K this morning and absolutely had a wonderful time! Not a big fan of the course, because it’s a 2-looper, but what made it totally awesome were the drum bands and the Canton Peeps Running Club along the course cheering everyone on!
I got there early enough to watch several balloons take off and land, and that was great to see!
The course is very well marked! There is no way to go off course on this one! Plenty of post-race snacks, and didn’t even need to look up results on my phone, they were scrolling on a big jumbo-tron at the park!

Small local race with not many participants. You could opt out of a shirt to recieve a discount. The medal was nice and I was surprised the 1 milers were also given one. At the finish line they had ice cream bars to enjoy. This was a fun 1 mile or 5K race.

Only thing that I’d suggest to do differently is parking. There was a swim meet going on at the same time as the race at the park. This made parking difficult. There were many cars trying to get in and out of the parking lot that was set up with the race tents.

I had an absolute blast at the Run the Galaxy 5K tonight! We weren’t sure the race would even happen with the heavy storms rolling through, but our Race Directors stayed patient and pulled everything together right on time. (Minus the tree that fell across the path just after the first quarter mile — definitely added some adventure and extra memories for everyone out there!)
I’d already run 4 miles this morning in case the storms canceled the race, but my legs still felt great and I ended up finishing 1st in my age group (40–49). Huge thank you to all the volunteers who kept us safe and handled the weather like pros!
And as a bonus, it was awesome seeing so many Team-ER teammates out there running or volunteering . Time to relax until the next one

I ran the Run the Galaxy 5k in Kent this evening with a bunch of awesome Team-ER teammates! I’m so glad the weather calmed down long enough for us to have this race! The race was well organized and the turns were well marked and directed by volunteers. I love the shirt and finisher medals too! Great job to everyone who ran or volunteered today! It was really great seeing everyone and thanks Gretchen Snyder for being my twin! I finished at a total time of 27:59 with a pace of 9:01 and ended up being third female overall! Plaque will be given at a later date.  Thanks again Scott Orlando for all the pictures and great job Josh Ritchie for timing and directing the whole race!

It was a crazy time last night running in between storms, but about 100 runners came out to race the Run the Galaxy 5k in Kent!
The course ended up being 3.5 miles, so everyone’s finishing times were slightly off.
I felt strong for miles one and two, but then I quickly became dizzy and sick. I’m not sure if it was the humidity, air quality, heat exhaustion or what, but I couldn’t get my breathing on track. Thankfully, another runner (Steven?) noticed and ran/jogged/walked with me for the final 1.5 miles to ensure that I was okay. What a gift!
Every race is different – some days I race well and others, like last night, I just get through.
Thank you to Ritchies Sporting Goods for putting on a well-organized event! Volunteering beforehand was a blast!
